V To Premiere Earlier - November 2009!
Good news to come from Comic-Con - V will be premiering earlier than expected, in November 2009! The exact date and time slot have yet to be revealed. This could be very good news that could continue the momentum of the excitement for this show.

Elizabeth Mitchell Will Appear In LOST's Final Season
At the LOST panel at the Comic-Con International in San Diego today, it was confirmed that Elizabeth Mitchell (V's Erica Evans) WILL be appearing in the final season of LOST as well.
Considering the use of flashbacks and flashforwards on the show, hopefully that is not considered to be a spoiler.

Comic-Con Bags Revealed!
One of the bags distributed at the Warner Bros. booth at Comic-Con features V on one side and Fringe on the other. These could become collector's items!
V Pilot @ Comic-Con: What Did You Think?
Those attending the Comic-Con International in San Diego who can make it to the Comic-Con Preview Night on Wednesday night had a special treat - Warner Bros. screened the pilot episodes of V, The Vampire Diaries, and Human Target!
Reaction to V seemed very positive.

Elizabeth Mitchell To Appear At Comic-Con "Female Power" Panel
Elizabeth Mitchell (Erica Evans) has been announced as a guest at Entertainment Weekly's "Wonder Women: Female Power Icons In Pop Culture" panel scheduled for the first full day of the Comic-Con International in San Diego, on Thursday, July 23. Here are the details of the panel:

V Featured In Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con Spotlight
The 7/24/09 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine (featuring Iron Man on the cover) has a special feature about the upcoming Comic-Con International in San Diego, and had this to say about V within:
This new V is based on the 1983 television event (and short-lived '84 show) about cold-blooded, rodent-swallowing aliens, a.k.a. Visitors. It stars Morris Chestnut (Ladder 49), Joel Gretsch (The 4400) as a priest suspicious of the ETs, and Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) as an FBI counterterrorism agent who wastes no time getting behind the Visitors' masks. "You know by the end of the first episode that the aliens have a secret agenda," says exec producer Bell. And this time, there are no cheesy alien-baby puppets!
Interestingly the article ends saying "ABC, November 2009" although "Midseason" is what we are being told here.

It seems this is the same release that was sent to us by Warner Bros. on June 25; however, now, the panel time is confirmed. Unfortunately for some, this panel will be overlapping with panels for 2012, Heroes, and Glee in other locations.

Scott Peters & Scott Wolf To Appear In Special TV Guide Magazine Comic-Con Panel
V Executive Producer Scott Peters as well as actor Scott Wolf are expected to appear in TV Guide Magazine's "Sci Fi Hot List" panel on Friday, July 24 at the Comic-Con International in San Diego. Here are the details, from the official Comic-Con website:

Watch With Kristin: "It Goes Above & Beyond Expectations"
In this week's "Watch With Kristin" spoiler column at E! Online, a reader wrote in to ask what they'd heard about the V pilot. This is the positive response that was given:
"Forget about hearing. We've seen the pilot, and on a scale of 1 to 10, we give it an 11. V is the best pilot we've seen in, well, forever. Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) is amazing. Scott Wolf (Party of Five) is adorable and charming. And you simply won't be able to take your eyes off Morena Baccarin (Firefly). It goes above and beyond expectations!"
Hopefully more reviews like that will be coming once the pilot has screened at Comic-Con!

Marc Singer Talks New V
Marc Singer, who played Mike Donovan in the first two V miniseries of the 1980s as well as the original V weekly series, recently spoke with SciFi Wire about the new take on the classic show.
"I think a good story can always be retold, and I think it is a good story. I think its relevance is as powerful today as it was then. The same forces of subversion and the same sort of fascist tendencies are afoot, and I think it's a cautionary tale that bears retelling," he said.
When asked about the possibility of a cameo on ABC's new V, Singer responded positively. "Oh, sure. I think it would be fun to do a cameo," he said. "I think it would be fun to do more than a cameo and see where that leads us. The nice thing about a program like V is that it's open to all sorts of add-ons and interpretations. The possibilities are definitely there. I am certainly an admirer and friend of Kenneth Johnson, so it's possible that that sort of thing might actually occur."

V Pilot To Screen At Comic-Con
E! Online has revealed that V will have a panel at the Comic-Con International in San Diego on Saturday, July 25 from 2:45-3:45pm. This panel will include a screening of the full V pilot.
It is also noted that Wednesday, July 22 is marked as a "WB Pilot Preview Night" which also makes us curious if that means the pilot will be screened then as well... stay tuned.
Unfortunately tickets to Comic-Con are already sold out; however, you can be assured that the V panel will be covered in full force here at VisitorSite!
The Province Looks At V & Other Vancouver Productions

V Staff Update
Here's some more crew info for V:
Akela Cooper has joined the show's writing staff. A 2009 alumni of the WB Writer's Workshop, Cooper wrote a Supernatural spec while part of the workshop.
Kathy Gilroy-Sereda was the Line Producer for the series pilot. Her previous credits include The 4400, Men in Trees, and Millennium. She's listed as a Producer for the upcoming CW series Parental Discrection Advised so we are not sure if she will be with the show when it goes to series.

Looks Like V Gets An Order, But A Shorter One
After weeks of speculation, the latest word is that ABC is close to making an order for between 6 and 13 episodes of V for what will likely be a midseason launch. This could be consistent with Variety's "event series" talk from earlier today.
Should this come to fruition, this means that V will be on the schedule... and perhaps once those 6-13 episodes come in, there is possibility for more!
Congratulations to the V cast and crew on the [presumed] pick-up. Now how about sending that pilot our way...?
UPDATE (Hopefully not a bad one): According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, Warner Bros. has balked at the "6 episode order." However, Nikki Finke has been mistaken when it comes to pilots before, so we'll have to see what's going on there...
Might We Learn The Truth About Elizabeth Mitchell Today?
Also rumored to be revealed today is that Elizabeth Mitchell will indeed be the series lead of V and not just a "guest star."

Latest From Variety: "An Event Series At Midseason"
V might be returning to television in the same way it began - as an "event series" at midseason, according to Variety.
This, like everything else this week, could just be rumor and conjecture. As has been stated on this website before, a midseason premiere might be good for V in that it could be paired and promoted with LOST; however, the elements are all there for a good ongoing series.
One downside to the "event/limited series" label is that it may raise some unfair comparisons to NBC's own "event series" Day One.

ABC Orders Cougar Town & Happy Town, Renews Castle
The number of available time slots for ABC's Fall schedule is getting smaller and smaller, as ABC has renewed the Nathan Fillion series Castle and given series orders to sitcom Cougar Town and hour-long drama Happy Town. This is in addition to the already-announced orders for Modern Family and Flash Forward.
Fortunately, we will know by Tuesday what ABC's plans will be; if V is on the Fall schedule, saved for midseason, or (gasp!) not happening at all. With all of the buzz surrounding this project, a total pass would be very unfortunate.

The Hollywood Reporter: "V Remains A Possibility For Midseason"
More news from the Hollywood Reporter - the good news is that V is not dead.
The bad news? It "remains a possibility for midseason."
On the bright side, if V waits for midseason, it could have the promotional push from the final episodes of LOST. It could also step in if, for some reason, Flashforward on ABC doesn't fly. Extra time could also result in a good final product.
Either way, it's no reason to give up hope yet. ABC will announce their schedule on Tuesday. Maybe we'll have a surprise...

So How Did The V Screening Go?
Some brief news about today's V pilot screening from The Hollywood Reporter:
"Meanwhile, 'V' and 'Limelight' screened to mixed reviews Monday at ABC. Of the two, 'V' remains in the mix after scoring well with its alien characters."
So, one competitor seems out of the way. One week remains until the official decision.

And Here's Some More Promising Buzz...
After the doom and gloom of the reports coming in today, some good news comes from today's Hollywood Reporter.
"Another remake, "V," is heading into its Monday screening with a strong buzz, with dramas "Empire State" and "Limelight" also in contention," the trade paper said.
Also, a positive review at Deadline Hollywood Daily: "I have seen the V pilot during a WB test and if you like things like LOST or HEROES then you will like this new V series. It is good," says a poster named "SirGossip."
ABC has, as expected, picked up Flashforward with a 13-episode order. Perhaps we will hear similar good news about V following Monday's screening.
More Possibly-Bad V News...
Be warned of RUMORS below. This information is not officially confirmed and is based on buzz and conjecture.
What seemed like such a sure thing might not be so definite.
Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily blog today listed ABC's pilot contenders, and although Finke lists V as one of ABC's "big five drama contenders" and says it has "a higher profile," some of the comments left on the page seem to bode badly for the show.
"ABC thinks having both Flashforward and V is too much sci-fi," says one commenter, who does have a valid point. However, that isn't to say one couldn't be held until midseason, which could give ABC TWO chances at popular new franchises.
More damning is a comment from someone who claims to have seen the pilot. "Saw V and let me say this... not (V)ery good," they say.
Now, as with any blog, a lot can be based on hearsay and rumor. (And if anyone reading would like to let Craig from VisitorSite see the pilot, to get affirmation that this reviewer could be wrong, send an e-mail, although so far we haven't even heard of any concrete proof that the pilot has even been screened). The official announcements will be made on May 19. Let's hope for the best.
The really surprising thing about a non-start for V is that there is a great amount of interest in the project. Not only are there fan sites such as VisitorSite.net; major media such as Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, TVOvermind, IGN, and Sci Fi Wire are reporting on it. Hopefully these things are taken into account before making an official decision.

Alan Tudyk Talks V
During a press junket promoting his appearances on FOX's Dollhouse, actor Alan Tudyk, who plays Dale in the V pilot, was mostly tight-lipped about the project. However, there were some hints, as reported by IGN:
"I can say this, it's really good," he did tease. "I hope that they pick it up [as a series]. If you're a fan -- which I was at the beginning -- of the first one, this is kind of everything that you remember without going back and watching."
"Because if you go back and watch the original V, you're like, oh, I thought this was great. It looks really kind of cheesy." Comparatively, Tudyk says the new version of V "fills in your memory as it should be."
Tudyk also revealed that the pilot's "really awesome" special effects were done by Zoic, the same company that did effects work for Firefly. "Zoic does all the spacecrafts and anything requiring digital enhancement is Zoic and they do a great job," Tudyk said before pointing out yet another Firefly connection. "And then, of course, Morena Baccarin is in it and she's the leader of the aliens, so you can't get any better than that." Although the characters of Dale and Anna have no scenes together in the pilot, the two former Firefly co-stars "did get to hang out and that was cool."
Less than two weeks are left until we know the fate of V and whether or not it will hit the air waves!

The Hollywood Reporter On Fall Pilots: V Not A Sure Thing?
ABC already seems to have gotten started with promoting the new Fall series Flashforward, but what does that mean for their other pilots in contention, including V?
Here's what The Hollywood Reporter said today:
"Also hot at the network are the drama "Eastwick" -- based on the 1987 feature "The Witches of Eastwick" -- the mystery "Happy Town" and the Dave Hemingson legal project, with the Romeo and Juliet-flavored "Empire State," alien invasion-themed "V" and performing-arts school-set "Limelight" also in contention."
Hopefully "also in contention" translates into "strongly being considered." Some things are clear: ABC DOES need a genre hit to fill the void when LOST ends, and V surely has a lot of internet and press buzz. However, the lack of some more solid talk does seem troubling... stay tuned.

Elizabeth Mitchell Talks LOST & V
Elizabeth Mitchell, who will be playing Erica Evans on V, still has an ongoing gig on ABC's LOST as Juliet... and in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mitchell seemed to avoid saying exactly where she will be found if V gets picked up.
She was, however, quick to point out that she filmed LOST and V simultaneously at the time the V pilot was in production. Is this a clue that she will be doing both?

V's Prospects: "Looking Good"
A new article posted by the Hollywood Reporter talks about Fall 2009 pilot prospects, and V, so far, is "looking good."
Here is what they had to say:
"Although most pilots -- especially on the comedy side -- are yet to be completed, several projects are enjoying early buzz based on screenings, testings, dailies or the strength of their script and cast.
ABC's sci-fi drama "Flash Forward" starring Joseph Fiennes is a lock for a series order.
Also hot on the drama side at ABC are "Happy Town," "Eastwick" and "Inside the Box," with "Limelight," "V" and the Dave Hemingson project also looking good. Last year's pilot "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas," which didn't make the cut in August, is back in contention, now for next season."

Mark Your Calendars For May 19, 2009
May 19. That's the day when ABC announces their Fall 2009 schedules to advertisers - and when it will be confirmed whether or not V will have a second life.
While some announcements do come out early, the Upfronts (held in New York City) are usually the first solid indicator of a show's being picked up. With the amount of money being spent on the V pilot and the talent involved, it's definitely one of ABC's best Fall 2009 prospects, although another project - titled Flash Forward - also is said to be very good and in a similar genre.
If any earlier announcements are made, you can be assured you'll be able to read about them here. But in the event that nothing comes out early, May 19 is your best bet.
A V Primer
While the V that is hopefully premiering this Fall on ABC will be something brand new, the concept has been done before in television, and it has been done very well. All of the original V television material is available on DVD.
Kenneth Johnson's original miniseries V is the most famous, and the most successful. All of the characters from the original, who will be quite different from what you will see in this new "take," are well-formed and played by some very good actors. Marc Singer played cameraman Mike Donovan, one of the first to rebel against the Visitors.
The original V had the deepest message of all of the incarnations as well. Parallels could easily be found between the Visitor situation and the situation in Germany with Nazis in World War II. A lot of this is personified in the character of Abraham Bernstein, played by Leonardo Cimino, an old man who saw the horrors of WWII and was afraid of history repeating itself.
That original V two-part miniseries had huge ratings when it originally aired, but left on a note where (spoiler warning!) the Visitors were not yet defeated and Mike Donovan had not found his abducted son, Sean. So, V: The Final Battle followed, an even longer miniseries which introduced new characters such as Ham Tyler to the mythos. Although settings and situations change a lot during The Final Battle, it is also engaging television and worth a look.
The final televised version of V came with the weekly V television series. Many of the actors from the two miniseries were present for at least half of the episodes. While some episodes of the series are quite enjoyable, the recycling of special effects for the two movies and the fixation on a certain character introduced in the second miniseries kind of bring it down. The 19-episode DVD set has been seen on Amazon.com at times for as low as $11.99.
It doesn't seem that you need to know classic V to understand the new series, but it is recommended if you're a fan of good television. However, if you're going to check anything out at all start with the very first mini-series. It's V at its best, and if the new series even comes close in quality, it'll be a hit.

ABC Releases A V Synopsis
ABC has issued a press release with a synopsis on what we should expect to see, plot-wise, with V. This is a spoiler-filled introduction but it may reveal a bit more of what the project is all about. More spoilers, of course, can be found on our V spoilers page.
This release may also clear up the "is Elizabeth Mitchell just a guest star" debate.

Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. More Casting News: "Marcus" Revealed
Here's another VisitorSite.net exclusive: The role of "Marcus," right-hand man to Morena Baccarin's "Anna," has been revealed.
He will be played by Christopher Shyer.
Shyer's previous credits include The Practice, Whistler, Monk, The Days, Kyle XY, and an episode of Smallville.
Casting News: Stefan Arngrim is "Roy"
Actor Stefan Arngrim, who 40 years ago starred in the series Land of the Giants and has included Highlander, The X-Files, Millennium, and Battlestar Galactica: Razor as more recent credits, has been cast in the V pilot as a character named Roy.

V Shooting Continues
Filming for the V pilot is still continuing through to next week, and all reports to come from Vancouver seem to be positive. If all goes well, a series announcement could be coming from ABC next month.
News in general has been fairly slow this week, but stay tuned...
PLEASE NOTE: In case there was any confusion with this posting... "a series announcement from ABC next month" is a reference to the 2009 Upfronts in mid to late May, when ABC announces their Fall schedule. While an announcement could come sooner, it is most likely that ABC will wait to that time.

More Casting News
Some more casting updates:
Erica Evans' son, Tyler, will be played by 19-year-old actor Logan Huffman. Previous credits include the movie America which was directed by V director Yves Simoneau. You can see a photo of Mr. Huffman to your left.
Tyler's friend Brandon, who meets with Laura Vandervoort's "Lisa" at the mothership, will be played by Jesse Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler can be seen to your right.

Lourdes Benedicto Joins The V Cast
The Hollywood Reporter revealed tonight that the role of Valerie Holt, fiancee to Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut), has been filled. Valerie will be played by Lourdes Benedicto, who starred on The Nine with V's "Chad Decker," Scott Wolf.
Benedicto's other credits include ER, Cashmere Mafia, and a particular favorite guilty pleasure of this site's webmaster - Titans, a short-lived primetime NBC series which featured Torchwood's John Barrowman among its cast.

VisitorSite Exclusive: Laura Vandervoort & Alan Tudyk Join V
Aaaand we have our first real scoop: Laura Vandervoort, who played Kara/Supergirl for the seventh season of Smallville, has been cast in V as "Lisa," a flirty, younger-looking Visitor who is a guide aboard the Los Angeles mothership. Lisa charms Tyler Evans and his friend Brandon "with ease."
But that's not all! V will also be staging a mini-Firefly reunion as Alan Tudyk, who played "Wash" on Firefly and its follow-up movie Serenity, will be joining Morena Baccarin on V. He will be playing Erica Evans' FBI partner Dale Maddox.
In other news, we have confirmed that Morris Chestnut will be playing the role of Ryan, and Elizabeth Mitchell is indeed playing the role of Erica Evans.

LOST's Elizabeth Mitchell Heads To V
LOST's Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays "Juliet" on the series, will be appearing in the V pilot episode, according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.
Representatives from both ABC and Warner Bros. insist to Ausiello that Mitchell is only going to be a guest star for the pilot, though we can't help but wonder if she'd be Erica Evans (who you can read more about on the VisitorSite.net Spoilers Page)...

David Richmond-Peck Joins V
Moviehole has revealed that actor David Richmond-Peck, an actor whose credits include The Day The Earth Stood Still, is the latest addition to the cast of V. He will be playing George (apparently no longer known as "Georgie"), a leader of one of the anti-Visitor resistance groups who has a "mysterious past."

The 4400's Joel Gretsch Cast As "Father Jack Lowery"
Joel Gretsch, who starred in The 4400 by V writer/producer Scott Peters, will be playing a Catholic priest in the new V.
Father Jack will be one of the series' main characters, and it should be interesting to see how he is in this role!

V Lands A Firefly Veteran As "Anna"
V has found its series lead. The lead Visitor, "Anna," will be played by Morena Baccarin.
Baccarin is best known for her role as Inara on Firefly and its follow-up movie Serenity. She also had a recurring role on Stargate SG-1.

Morris Chestnut Cast In V
Morris Chestnut (Anacondas, Ladder 49) is the latest actor to be cast in ABC's reimagined V.
Details on who he will be playing have not yet been revealed although it is said he will be "a lead." He could be Ryan, a character who is hiding a secret from his new fiancee, or he could be playing a different character entirely.

Scott Wolf (Party of Five, Everwood) has been cast as the role of "Chad Decker" on ABC's reimagined V.
His character is described as an "Anderson Cooper type" who becomes the outlet for the Visitors' propaganda.

Ausiello Confirms That Janssen Passed On "Anna"
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello confirmed today in this week's edition of "Ausiello TV" that Famke Janssen (Nip/Tuck, X-Men) was indeed the actress that turned down the role of "Anna," the 21st century equivalent of the "Diana" character played by Jane Badler on the original V.
Unfortunately, no more casting news with regards to V has leaked! (Anyone have any anonymous tips?)

Did A Big Name Turn Down V?
Casting is still ongoing for the new V, with no announcements made as of this posting. However, it seems a big name may have turned down the role of the lead female Visitor.
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, a frequent poster of TV-related scoops, posted this tease on his Facebook status today: "Just got some bad news: The super cool *a*** *a***e* turned down the Jane Badler role in ABC's "V" reboot. Sigh..."
Ausiello is, as usual, playing the asterisk game, but one might note that Famke Janssen does fit into that letter scheme... unfortunately, it seems that is not meant to be. Janssen is, of course, best known to sci-fi fans for her turn as Jean Grey in three X-Men films. Still some cool news to chew on, and if this is an indication of the level of actors they are going for, this is going to be a really big show.

Kenneth Johnson Talks New V (Briefly)
Ilana of "Ilana's V Page" managed a brief interview with Kenneth Johnson, creator of the original V. In the interview, Johnson spoke briefly about the people working on the new incarnation of the project, and how it will conflict [or not] with his V feature film prospects.
"Jason Hall is a very talented, honorable and genuinely nice guy. From our very first meeting he has been very forthcoming about his ideas and his respect for my work," Johnson says. "I don't know Scott Peters as well, but I wish them good luck. Barry Meyer, the CEO of Time Warner and an old friend from our work together on my original V, has told me that both TV and motion picture versions of V can easily exist side by side just as the Terminator projects are currently doing and Star Trek has done for years."

Welcome, Visitors
In 1983, producer Kenneth Johnson brought us V - a television program with lizard-like alien "visitors" who claimed to come in peace but really had their own agenda. The original mini-series is still one of the highest-rated science fiction television programs of all time - and its success spawned a sequel mini-series, an ongoing show that lasted for one season, and even a novel "The Second Generation" which served as a "next generation"-style look at the original miniseries by V's original creator.
The feeling is that V would be a perfect addition to the KryptonSite Network - that is, if it even hits the air. Right now, a pilot episode is about to film. It is written by Scott Peters (The 4400) and directed by Yves Simoneau (whose credits also include The 4400). Kenneth Johnson - who has his own ideas on what to do with V - is apparently not involved. The new V will air on the ABC television network if it is picked up as a series.
Some reinventions of TV work. Look at Battlestar Galactica. Some fail miserably. See Bionic Woman, another show that Kenneth Johnson had worked on which lost its heart on the second try by other producers, partly due to having villains that were more entertaining and interesting than the titular heroine.
Full disclosure from the webmaster: I come into V as a new fan. I have seen some of but not all of the original material, and I understand there are people who have a lot of affinity and affection for that original material. Maybe they don't want to give this new version a chance, and I respect that. But my hope is that this new take on V will be something that will appeal to the new folks like me, and hopefully some of the old, but most importantly, I hope it is as valid of a social commentary as the original V was so many years ago. Hopefully this website will be a good fan destination, and I encourage all of you to post in the forum and let your thoughts be heard. Yes, familiar characters like Diana or Donovan aren't on here, which says to me it's just a very different take on the story not intended to step on the original. Both can co-exist, and hopefully, both will be good in the end.
